The 1 Question To Help Keep You On Track To Achieve Your Goals This Year

Do you ever need help staying on track when you attempt to achieve your goals?

I sure do… No matter what goal I set, it seems there was always something else pulling for my attention and I wasn’t sure how to stay completely focused on my long term goals.  However, this past summer I found out it was VERY possible to achieve your goals easier and even faster just by asking yourself ONE specific question!  

See, I have been a fan of Tony Robbins for many years now.  

I really like his tactical approach to personal development and career growth.  His audio trainings have been extremely helpful to me, so when the opportunity came up, I jumped at the chance to attend his coveted  Business Mastery Live event this past August in Las Vegas. 

It was a $10K ticket just to go, but looking back I would have paid more and still have been very happy with the results from that event.

It was a 5 day event that went the entire day (and yes I mean from 10am – 2am, the man is a beast!).  There was so much that was covered in that event, from personal development, to business growth, to finances… I could write 20 more posts about it… But there was one question he asked us mid week that stood out from everything he said while I was there…and it’s the one thing that absolutely flipped the switch in my head on achieving my goals.

It was one simple question that made time stand still for me…

I remember the lights were swirling around me, the music was pumping and we were jumping around having fun getting into a peak state, when he then asked us this one question…

Fast forward 6 months and once again I was in Vegas. Yet, this time I was at the famous Venetian Hotel speaking to a very eager group of entrepreneurs who were winding up their long weekend.  They had learned a lot of great information, and to really help them take their business to the next level, I took that opportunity to ask them the very same question that was asked to me just 6 months earlier, just a few hundred yards away…

Yet, before I give you this one amazing question that will keep you on track to achieve your goals all year long..

You must ponder a few other questions first for it to make sense …

First – what are your goals for this year? 

Better yet, take some time to figure out what your 1, 3 & 5 year goals are. 

Even if the thought of knowing what your 5 year goal is, is overwhelming, I encourage you to go broad and come up with one.  It will be the guiding light of all that you do over the next few years.

Now, after you have figured out your long term goals, take another look at what your goal is for the end of this year…

(Hint, it should be big enough to stretch your limits, but not so big it completely freaks you out and feels unattainable.)

Next, after you have your 1 year goal, break that down and figure out what you actually need to accomplish before you can hit that goal. (It’s best if you break your 1 year goals into 3 month chunks, and then break those down into 30 day goals.)

This isn’t an article about goal setting, as I could go way deeper into the process of this and make it extremely concrete for the advanced goal setting process (and in the near future I will)… But right now you should at least have a good idea what your short and long term goals are.

Before you read any further – do you at least have a concrete goal for your 1 year plan?

Seriously – you don’t want to be flying blind behind the wheel of your life!  Get your plan together if you haven’t.

Although, since the title of this was how to keep you on track to achieve your goals this year, I’m assuming that if you’re still reading this, then you have your goals setup already.  Good for you!

So that brings me to the #1 question you must ask yourself right now if you really want to achieve your goals this year.

Here it is: 

“What would stop you from achieving this?”

Seriously! 

Think about that for a moment…

We live in our head most of the time. We allow outside circumstances to play a role in what we do each day.  So knowing that, WHAT would stop you from achieving your goal?

A beautiful thing happens when you really take some time to answer this question and put your ego aside.

When you strip down all the reasons why you might not follow through and achieve your goals, it will all boil down to just a few things:

  • self worth issues
  • self doubt and second-guessing
  • old habits that keep you stuck
  • limiting beliefs that drive your decisions

And that’s exactly where the power comes from asking yourself this one question!

When you answer this question honestly, you now know exactly what your triggers are that will attempt to derail you from achieving your goals. And thankfully now that you’re aware of them, you can stop them in their tracks when they occur!

Self awareness is always the key, especially when it comes to bettering yourself and your business.

Then take a few moments when you have some quiet time to really think about that question.  Figure out what could possibly  hold you back from achieving your goals this year… and then be prepared to conquer them as they pop up!  Good luck!
