In this episode we answer one of our listeners questions.

Karen asks… “I have been running my online business full time for 2.5 years now, and just recently started to procrastinate on things that I would not normally procrastinate on. I’m wondering if this happens to other people or if it’s just me. Any help is greatly appreciated.”

Initial thoughts

We found this interesting because we would have assumed that this was with someone getting started not someone who’s been doing it over for over 2 years. There might be some underlying shifts going on in your business or life.

Quick answer: It’s normal. There’s always ups and downs to everything.

There are a few reasons why procrastination pops up.

There is a lack of certainty. Something is unclear to you.

We were at an event where someone went so far as to say ‘There is no such thing as procrastination. People don’t get procrastination problems. It’s a lack of certainty problem.’

When you have a lack of certainty you’ll procrastinate on it. When you know but not enough to be pushed into action.

Certainty pushes you into action.

If you’re certain and you really believe that if you do A, B and C you will get result D that you really really want. If you’re certain f that there there is no procrastination.

To speak the same thing in a different way it shows us that you have some doubt in what you’re doing. You may be certain you want to do this but then if there’s underlining doubt between your beliefs.

Maybe you want to do more. Maybe you want to take your business to the next level. And these tasks that used to be easy are perhaps not the tasks that you need to do to take yourself to the next level.

You have to know what you want.

One of the other reasons why people can procrastinate is also perfection. Perfectionism is really procrastination because it’s never going to be good enough or perfect.

Procrastination is the symptom. Thats your cue to to start asking yourself ‘Are you certain in this?’

Don’t feel guilty just be self aware.

Some people identify with being a procrastinator. Ask yourself WHY? What benefit do you get from leaving things to the last minute? Change your language and your identification with procrastination.

It’s not just you. We occasionally find ourselves procrastinating! But that a cue to start asking ourselves some questions. We have to find the certainty within ourselves. Take action!
