So with the intro out of the way, let’s dive into today’s episode.

Here are the questions we asked Ray, and a quick summary of his answers:

  • if you had to pick just ONE thing you are THANKFUL for along your journey…what or who, would that be?

Ray is most grateful for his wife Jessica… For not leaving him when times were tough.

In 2009, when Ray was in a spiritual, mental, and financial coma, his girlfriend at the time (wife now), Jessica was working at the Nordstrom makeup counter paying his bills. He made the decision to change EVERYTHING, and told her upfront that the next 2 years, there wouldn’t be much time for relationship… And basically asked if she was in or out?

In his words: “Thank God she stuck with me”

  • When you first started your entrepreneurial journey, did you get the results you were hoping for on your first attempt, or did you have any failures along the way? Thinking back to those low moments on your journey, was there ever a time when you considered quitting and giving up on your quest? (If so, how did you pull yourself out and continue moving forward)

Ray had all kinds of failures along the way.

For one, the market changed in real estate, and he went from making money every month to losing money every month.

In another bad advertising deal, Ray spent $20k and HUNDREDS of man hours and literally did not make one dime in return… Ouch!

From that, there have definitely been things that he’s stopped doing along the way, but he never quit. “I never stopped the dictation to the universe that I am an entrepreneur”

Ray has known hes an entrepreneur since 6th grade, but didn’t really step into it fully until his 20s. And ever since then, he is NOT employable.

  • How did you know that you were an entrepreneur in 6th grade? Did something happen? How did you know that?

Ray was at this general store in FL, and noticed air heads (the candy) were only $0.10 each. (typically sold for $0.25c) So he worked out a deal with the owner of that store, and started moving 90-100 airheads per day.

  • What success beliefs and internal personal beliefs did you have to adopt in order to become the person you are today?

In 2008 when his entire real estate business collapsed, he adopted this attitude of “I had once had something, and then I lost it” … Inside, he felt like he lost something internally that he didn’t know how to get back. (AKA – a depressive fog)

Eventually he got to a point where he was sick and tired of it. Then he got mad at his situation. (typically the next step) And that’s when he made the decision to wake up and take back control of his life. (and he hasn’t looked back since)

One belief that stood out to Ray is the belief that in order to make more money, you have to work harder. That’s just not the case.

So now, he asks questions like “how can we be smarter at making money, and still have an amazing lifestyle?” <— and when you ask questions like that, you come up with an answer.

  • what is one specific thing or big breakthrough you can attribute to achieving your amazing results in your business?

He knew (logically) that sales was a numbers game. He also knew that he didn’t want to be calling people everyday… Instead he wanted people to start reaching out to call him. So there were 2 things he did early on that changed the game for him…

  1. Started going for 20 “no’s” per day in his company
  2. Started creating content (even though he had no idea what he was doing)

5 months in, the calling (20 no’s per day) had resulted in $10k per month, and ZERO per month from his blogging efforts. But he had faith that it would work, so he kept doing it.

7 months in, he was at $40k/month with the calls, and he started to see SOME traction with the blog content he was creating.

10 months in, he was earning $50k per month and was the top recruiter in his company, and at this point his blog was generating between 10-30 leads per day, and that allowed him to not make as many calls as he was before.

BIG TAKEAWAY: He didn’t quit after 5 months when the blog wasn’t making squat. Most people would’ve quit, but he chose to stick with it… And long term it has paid off BIG.

  • You do a lot of things… Where did you go when first starting out to get your training?

A friend reached out in 2009 and showed him Magnetic Sponsoring. He read books like The 4 hour work week, Crush it, etc. Learned from guys like Mark Hoverson.

Eventually, he got the idea that instead of running offline meetings, he could do the same thing with technology… He could put out videos and accomplish the same basic thing.

He also got a lot of mentoring from people who were already really successful in the network marketing space, and learned a lot from them.

In the last 2 years alone, Ray and his wife have invested over $200,000 themselves in JUST coaching. (not including travel or courses)

  • Many successful entrepreneurs have rituals or habits that they practice on a daily basis that keeps you focused and moving forward…What is something you do consistently every day that helps you achieve your results?

Ray has created 5-7 blog posts per week for the past 5 years.

He does a new podcast every single day.

Ray is RUTHLESS with his routine.

His day starts the night before.

-As he goes to bed he puts his phone in airplane mode and reads his affirmations. (nothing negative before bed)
-wake up, read morning affirmations
-gym (check all email and social media while exercising)
-home, gratitude practice in the hot tub (15 -16 minutes)
-blog post
-email blast
-look at calendar and crush the day

SIDE NOTE: Recently started setting 30 day goals and loves it.

  • what’s been the best investment you’ve ever made and why?

Landmark Forum – was dead broke and in personal foreclosure. Hadn’t talked to his dad in 13 years. Reconnected with his dad while there. That freed up a lot of energy and allowed him to step further into his greatness.

  • If you lost everything (except your knowledge) and had to start completely over from scratch tomorrow, what (if anything) would you change about your journey?

Hard to say if I would change anything. The 20 no’s per day allowed him to really learn and understand his people better than anything else. He knows his people because he’s talked to him.

If starting over in any other niche, he would start by coming a content creating beast. “you only hear from the gurus 3 days before their big launch” – Ray puts out so much value on a daily basis, its THE way to build major relationships at scale.

  • Why are you in this business? Why do you do what you do?

“Because with my current mindset, it is what I see as my highest and best use” Ray is constantly looking for how can he help the most amount of people? And he adjusts along the way. At the end of the day, doing this allows Ray to feel good, and that’s why he does it.

  1. Danny Fortes Says:

Wow! Talk about RESULTS! I can’t tell you how many aha moments I got during this podcast. It’s unfortunate that most of the IM space is promoting “push button results” and I feel like FINALLY some people are starting to tell the truth about how much of a grind this really is.

But this episode crystalizes 1 thing that I have put the finger on where I fall short (and I have known for sometime). I’m not even the only one that suffers from this… and that is CONSISTENCY!

Justin & Brenda thank you soon much for that episode and the many others! AMAZING!!!!
